YOUR JOURNEY STARTS HERE

Join forces with your friends or let us help you build a band with other music students. Partner up with a coach and put their years of recording experience, musical wisdom, and song writing know how to use. Rehearse together in a weekly 90 minute practice session. Build up the confidence to rock out as a band.

Before long you will increase your skill in the fundamentals of playing with other musicians.
Things like:

  • Choosing a setlist

  • Working on arrangements

  • Learning individual parts

  • Gelling as a band

  • Performing live on stage

Finally, to certify your rockstar status, you and your band will perform 2 live concerts!

About

The eXtraordinary League of Rockers (XLR) exposes music students between the ages of 7-18 to the thrill of being in a band and playing the music they want to play. For our younger and newer musicians (ages 7-12) we offer XLR Firestarters as a great way to get some early introductory experience playing in a band.

Over the course of the season, students will not only gain the confidence to rock out as a band, but also:

  • Increased self-confidence

  • Direction and purpose when tackling projects

  • Experience building a successful team

  • Patience and the value of learning

  • Commitment and follow-through

  • A strong sense of ownership

  • Enhanced listening skills

  • Self-discipline

XLR Firestarters

XLR Firestarters is specifically geared towards our younger and newer musicians who are eager to rock but are looking to get a lot of experience in a band before heading to the stage. They will learn to mesh and meld together as a band before performing live on stage.

Any young musician between the ages of 8-12 with a basic knowledge of their instrument is encouraged to sign up!

Signing up for XLR: FIRESTARTERS for the season is easy! Stop by Concert School of Music, call in (503-682-9829) or register online. Fire Starters Season 12 pricing: $250.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How old do I have to be to join?
Any young musician between the ages of 7-18 with a basic knowledge of their instrument is encouraged to sign up! For our younger and newer musicians (ages 7-12) we offer XLR Firestarters as a great way to get some early introductory experience playing in a band. If you are unsure which level to join, please contact Concert School of Music.

2. Does it matter which instrument I play? Can I play multiple instruments?
Bands come in all different shapes and sizes...any student with a basic knowledge of their instrument--or multiple instruments--are encouraged to sign up. There is no better way to learn an instrument than learning how to play it with others

 

3. Can I be in a band with my friend?
Your skill level and preferred instrument are the basic criteria used for band placement, but we will certainly try to honor any requests to team up with your fellow rockers! Just be sure to let us know who you would like to be in a band with when registering. For Season 12 we will be capping our bands at 4-6 members.

4. Where are rehearsals held?
All practices are held at Concert School of Music.


5. When are rehearsals?
Each band practices once a week for 90-minutes (a total of 10 rehearsals per season). Firestarter bands practice once a week for 60-minutes (a total of 10 rehearsals per season). Rehearsal times vary depending on band, coach, and individual availability.

6. Are instruments provided or do I have to bring my own?
Students must provide their own instruments as none are provided with the exception of an electronic drum set that is available for in-person rehearsals.

 

7. What if I have never played in a group before?
No problem! Everyone starts as a beginner at some point and XLR is a great opportunity to learn about what it takes to be in a band.
